A method of incinerating waste material in a prefabricated sheet metal incinerator under low temperature conditions comprises charging the material to a chamber of the incinerator to form a body having upper and lower surfaces, igniting the charge, causing combustion air to flow through the charge from one face towards the other in insufficient amount to burn all the combustible gases distilled from the charge, discharging the gases into a second chamber in jet-like streams and admitting combustion air to the chamber also in jet-like streams transversely to the flow of the combustible gases to cause continued combustion of those gases through intimate mixture with the combustion air. The apparatus described for carrying out the method of the invention is the same as that described and claimed in Specification 914,881.
