Abstract
The invention comprises siloxanes of the formula (R3SiO)3 Si Ch2 Ch2-n(CH3)n CH2 NH CH2 CH2 NH2-(1) and acid salts thereof, where R is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halo- or cyanosubstituted hydrocarbon radical and n is 0 or 1. The free amines are prepared by reacting chloroalkyl siloxanes (R3SiO)3 Si CH2 CH2-n(CH3)nCH2Cl -(2) with ethylene diamine. The salts are prepared by contacting the siloxane with an organic or inorganic, mono-, di- or poly-basic acid. A partial salt may also be prepared. The examples describe the preparation of compounds of formula (1) where R3 is Me3 and n is 0, R3 is Me3 and n is 1, R3 is Me2Ph, Me2Vi, EtPhVi and PhVi2 and n is 0, and the salts of the first of these compounds with acetic, hydrochloric, hydrobromic, nitric, sulphuric, formic, propanoic, malic, adipic, trifluoroacetic and isophthalic acids. The chloroalkyl-siloxanes (formula 2) are prepared by mixing Cl3 Si CH2 CH2-n (Me)n CH2Cl with R3 Si Cl in mol. ratio of 1:3, alkoxylating the mixture and hydrolysing. Uses: treating glass and textiles to improve adhesion to dyes, pigments and resins, and to wet and size them; emulsifying and dispersing agents; and curing agents for epoxy resins.ALSO:Polyaminoalkyl substituted organosiloxanes of the formula (R3SiO)3SiCH2CH2-n(CH3)n CH2NHCH2CH2NH2 and acid salts thereof, where R is a monovalent hydrocarbon or halo- or cyano-substitituted hydrocarbon radical and n is 0 or 1, are used for treating glass and fibres of polyamides, acetate, and acrylic, polyester, vinyl formal, olefin and other vinyl resins. The treatment improves the adhesion of resins, dyes and pigments to the fibres, and improves the wettability of glass after being rendered water-repellent. The compounds also act as sizes and as lubricants on glass cloth filaments.
