913,746. Pneumatic tyres. SEMPERIT OSTEREICHISCH AMERIKANISCHE GUMMIWERKE A.G. June 30, 1959 [July 2, 1958; April 23, 1959], No. 22335/59. Class 144 (2). A pneumatic tyre tread reinforcement comprises at least one strip of synthetic resinous plastic material, such as a polyamide or a polyester, which has been pre-stretched to increase its tensile strength. Fig. 1 shows three superposed sheets 4, 5, 6, each substantially the width of the tread and disposed with their directions of stretching 7, 8, 9 crossing each other, the directions 8, 9 being oppositely disposed to the median plane and the direction 7 being perpendicular to the plane. Fig. 2 shows a tread reinforcement wherein the strips 7, 8, 9 of Fig. 1 are replaced by a strip 13 and two cross-laid parallel cord plies 10, 11. To provide for better anchorage of the strips 7, 8, 9 and 13, they may be adhesive-coated, perforated, or have their edges turned-up.
