Abstract
913,289. Laminates. DOW CHEMICAL CO. March 30, 1960 [April 27, 1959 (4)], No. 11182/60. Drawings to Specification. Class 140. A process for the production of laminated structures, such as laminated films or foils and the like, which consist of or contain a thermoplastic polymeric substrate to at least one side of which is intimately joined a layer of a non- aromatic hydrocarbon polymer such as polyethylene, polypropylene, or polybutylene, over a thin adhesion-promoting intermediary layer of a polyethylene imine such as polyethylene imine, is characterized in that the polyolefin is deposited on to the polyalkylene imine modified surface of the preformed thermoplastic polymerize sulphate in the form of a molten layer, e.g. by extrusion. Suitable materials for the substrate are polyethylene terephthalate, cellulose acetate, or cellulose propionate used as such; or polyethylene, polypropylene, or regenerated cellulose, coated on the side to be laminated with vinylidene chloride-vinyl chloride copolymer, or vinylidene chloride-acrylonitrile copolymer.
