Abstract

913,268. Embossing surfaces. WOOD CONVERSION CO. July 13, 1960 [Sept. 28, 1959], No. 24441/60. Classes 100 (1) and 100 (2). A die for forming fissures in mineral felts comprises a base having a plane or cylindrical face from which projects a mass having an irregular contour on the face and rising to irregular heights from the face, the shape of the mass being that of a number of closely-packed pins projecting to various heights from the base. The die of Fig. 3 comprises a wooden base 10 into which a number of nails 16 are driven in packed formation at various angles. The heads of the nails are cut off at different angles to produce the effect shown. Fig. 5 shows an integral metal casting taken from the die of Fig. 3. Pins 34, 35, 36 may be inserted in the dies, after casing in the case of Fig. 5, and serve to perforate the tiles with sound-absorbing holes. The dies may be cylindrical instead of flat. If a flat die is used the impression may be made through a stripper plate having apertures through which the raised portions of the die project, the peripheral side walls of the raised portions being perpendicular to the plane upper face 10a of the base in this case. The stripper plate may carry adjustable stops which regulate the depth of penetration of the die into a tile.
