Abstract

913,243. Carrying conductors through partitions. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 11, 1959 [May 14, 1958], No. 16064/59. Class 36. [Also in Groups XXII and XXVIII] Conductors 2 comprising thermo-elements in an insulated sleeve are secured to a metal sleeve 1 by a plug of hard solder, and the sleeve 1 is soldered at 17 to a circular plate 18 soldered at 20 to the outer surface of a wall 19, the whole arrangement providing a fluid-tight passage. The solder 17, 20 may be hard or soft and that used for securing the conductors 2 is introduced through an aperture 8 in the sleeve after the latter has been heated to melt the solder by, for example, carbons applied to opposite sides of the sleeve. The operation is performed in a non- oxidizing atmosphere, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown). If the conductors 2 are long, a longitudinally split sleeve may be applied about them and secured either by clamps or by the solder itself. The conductors 2 may be secured to the sleeve 1 before or after it is mounted on the wall 19 and the connection between the sleeve and wall may, if desired, be by welding or by using stuffing-boxes.
