Abstract
Coatings for transparent moisture-proof wrapping materials comprise not less than 95 wt. per cent of a copolymer, containing at least 85 wt. per cent of vinylidene chloride, and 0,5 to 5 wt. per cent of an acid anhydride derived from C12-18 saturated fatty acids. Specified vinylidene chloride copolymers are those wherein the predominant comonomer is acrylonitrile. They may contain also mono-n-butyl itaconate as described in Specification 913,043 or have grafted side-chains of polyethylene imine as described in Specification 812,130. They are preferably soluble in organic solvents but may also be used in aqueous dispersion. Anhydrides specified are palmitic, lauric, myristic and stearic. In examples the copolymer compositions were dissolved in 50/50 methyl ethyl ketone/toluene to yield a clear lacquer which was used to coat a regenerated cellulose film which had been softened with glycerine and treated with a melamine-formaldehyde resin as anchoring agent.
