Abstract

Coatings for transparent moisture-proof wrapping materials comprise not less than 95 wt. per cent of a copolymer, containing at least 85 wt. per cent of vinylidene chloride, and 0,5 to 5 wt. per cent of a di-n-C12-18 alkyl ether. Specified vinylidene chloride copolymers are those wherein the predominant comonomer is acrylonitrile. They may contain also mono-n-butyl itaconate as described in Specification 913,043 or have grafted sidechains of polyethylene imine as described in Specification 812,130. They are preferably soluble in organic solvents but may also be used in aqueous dispersion. Ethers specified are dicetyl, stearyl, lauryl and myristyl, and for comparison di-octyl and eicosyl. In examples the copolymer compositions were dissolved in 50/50 methyl ethyl ketone/toluene to yield a clear lacquer which was used to coat a regenerated cellulose film which had been treated with a melamine-formaldehyde resin as anchoring agent.
