912,604. Rotary printing-machines. STRACHAN & HENSHAW Ltd. May 30, 1961 [June 1, 1960], No. 19461/60. Class 100 (2). A rotary printing-machine includes two printing rollers 11, 12 of different diameters with the rollers disposed one at each side of a plane, including the axis of an impression roller 13 and directed towards an inking roller 14, and bearings 15 for the two printing rollers being mounted adjustably in substantially fixed position bearing supports 16 so that either one of the printing rollers can be brought into operative engagement with the impression and inking rollers, the engagement being effected by movement of either of the printing rollers about the bearing support axis 33. Each of the printing rollers 11, 12 is provided at the ends of a shaft 22 with roller bearings 15 disposed eccentrically in bearing supports 16 mounted on a frame 20 of the rotary printing- machine. Integral with each bearing support is a worm-wheel 23 meshing with a worm 24 mounted in a housing 25 and provided with a hand wheel (not shown) whereby rotation of the bearing support in the frame 20 may be effected manually. A dial indicator 26 is rigidly mounted on the worm housing 25 and provided with an axially-movable rod 28 which is spring-urged into contact with an arcuate surface 31 of one of the bearing supports 16, the said arcuate surface being concentric with the bearing 15 but eccentric to the bearing support and worm-wheel so that as the wormwheel 23 and the bearing support rotate to effect adjustment of the roller 11, the arcuate surface 31 moves with them, but, because of the eccentric relation between the arcuate surface and the bearing support the point of contact between the arcuate surface and a ball end 29 of the rod 28 approaches or recedes from the indicator dial 26 according to the angular movement of the bearing support, whereby the indicator rod 28 is moved radially to effect movement of a dial pointer in relation to the dial and, the extent of angular displacement of the roll 11 is indicated. The eccentrically mounted bearings also enable the pressure between the printing roller and the impression or inking roller to be adjusted. Further, the bearings of the impression roller may be retained in a fixed position and the bearings of the inking roller mounted eccentrically in their bearing supports in order to assist in regulating the pressure between the inking and printing rollers or the bearings of any one or more of the printing, impression and inking rollers may be adjustable for the regulation of pressure between the rollers.
