Abstract

912,426. Sliding clasp fasteners. FLEX FASTENERS Ltd. May 16, 1961 [Feb. 18, 1960], No. 5774/60. Class 44. A method of making a stop of a sliding clasp fastener comprises the step of deforming one or more of a series of identical-interlocking members forming part of a stringer of a fastener, in such a manner that the deformed member or members check movement of the slider for operating the fastener. As shown in Fig. 1, each top stop 7 is formed by fusing together by the application of heat and pressure two adjacent thermoplastic interlocking elements of each stringer. The bottom stop 17, Fig. 3, is formed by fusing together a number of the endmost elements of each stringer while these are interlocked. In this case heat and pressure is applied through stringer tape portions 14, 15 which are arranged on both sides of the elements 13 so that the elements are bonded together and to the tape portions ; in a modification the elements are temporarily softened by a softener the elements being deformed while soft.
