Abstract
1 - (b - acylaminoethyl)-2-alkyl-imidazolines, the acyl radical of which contains 16-20 carbon atoms and the alkyl radical of which contains 15-19 carbon atoms, are prepared by heating 1 mol of diethylenetriamine with 1 mol of each of two identical or different fatty acids containing 16-20 carbon atoms, e.g. oleic, palmitic or stearic acid, until, in all, 3 mols of water are split off. The diethylenetriamine may be heated simultaneously with both fatty acids or first with one and then with the other. The 1-(b -acylaminoethyl)-2-alkyl-imidazolines may subsequently be converted into their salts by reaction with acetic or formic acid.ALSO:Polymeric and copolymeric acrylonitrile fibres and textiles made therefrom are softened by impregnating them with aqueous solutions of salts of 1-(b -acylaminoethyl)-2-alkyl-imidazolines, the acyl radical of which contains 16-20 carbon atoms and the alkyl radical of which contains 15-19 carbon atoms, and then subjecting them in a dry condition to a heat treatment at a temperature of at least 90 DEG C., preferably for between 10 minutes at 100 DEG -110 DEG C. and 3 minutes at 150 DEG C. The treating solutions preferably contain 0.5-2%, calculated on the weight of the fibres, of a least one of the salts of the 1-(b -acylaminoethyl)-2-alkyl-imidazolines with lower fatty acids, e.g. acetic or formic acid. Examples describe the treatment of hanks of polyacrylonitrile yarn, piece goods made from polyacrylonitrile polyvinylacetate mixed polymer and optically brightened polyacrylonitrile woven goods.
