Vertical upstanding or suspended folders having projecting tabs 4 bearing reference numerals, are filed in fixed or movable compartments or drawers provided with an index panel displaceably mounted whereby it may be adjusted into a variety of viewing positions, index strips showing the contents of each folder in alphabetical order against the reference numerals appearing on the tabs, being detachably and exchangeably arranged on the index panel. An open-fronted compartment 1 is provided with an index panel 7 rotatable about pivot pins 20 and an index panel 21 slidable in a guide 22. The folders are contained between partitions 5 having projecting index tabs 6 and slidable along fixed rails 19. Alternatively, the index panel engages curved guide members at each side whereby the, angle of inclination is adjustable. The folders may be suspended from an I-shaped pull-out frame running in rails at each side of the open-fronted compartment, said frame carrying an index panel rotatable about end pivots, or from a pair of suspension rails arranged in a horizontal or inclined plane having an index panel slidable therealong. In another embodiment, folders are supported upright in an open-sided drawer divided in two by a| central wall 53 (see Specification 912,044) carrying rotatable index panels 52 and having slidable or rotatable index panels at the open sides. The folders are contained between partitions 5 slidably mounted on a fixed rail 103 on the central wall or base of the drawer and pivotable about vertical or horizontal grooves 104, respectively. Pull-out index cards 57 are held in girders 55 on the partitions.
