A portable stand or tray for utensils such as dishes and plates comprises a flat, e.g. wooden table A provided with three legs, namely, a leg F, which is gripped by the hand of a person carrying the tray, and a pair of legs G, e.g. joined by a curved bridge H, which embrace his forearm. Two pairs of parallel passages B extend through the table. Each passage accommodates a rod D and a helical spring C, which is compressed when the rod is moved outwardly from the table and tends to return the rod into it. The outer pair of rods project from one side of the table and the inner pair project from the opposite side. The projecting ends of each pair of rods are connected by a member E having tongues E<SP>1</SP>, which overhangingly engage a utensil and hold it on the table. The projecting ends of the rods are preferably hinged to their main portions, to facilitate engagement of the tongues with utensils varying in depth. The members E constitute handles. The legs are, preferably, provided with rubber feet. In an alternative construction, the table is made of metal, is provided with side walls and is covered with a heat-insulating, removable cover, e.g. of plastic material. Gaps are provided in the corners of the table and hooks, connected by springs to an anchorage in the centre of its underside, project through the gaps to engage and hold a utensil.
