[Also in Group XXIX] A fluid power system for a back-hoe on a tractor comprises at least two pressure-operated units 19, 20 which are associated with control valves 28, 38 and operated by fluidpressure delivered by respective pumps 23, 24 so that one unit 20 may be operated by the conjoint discharge of both pumps when the other unit is not in operation, an unloader 80 for the pump 24 associated with the said one unit when the fluid-pressure delivered to that unit exceeds a predetermined value, a first check valve 68 downstream the unloader to maintain such fluid pressure in said one unit when said one pump is unloaded, and a second check valve 63 permitting flow of fluid under pressure from the other pump 23 to said one unit for continued operation of the latter. The tractor may have six units consisting of right and left stabilizers 7, 8, a swing cylinder 19, a boom hoisting and lowering cylinder 20, a crowd arm cylinder 21 and a bucket cylinder 22. The units 7, 8 and 19 may be of small capacity and are controlled by valves 28, 29, 30 which connect the small capacity highpressure pump 23 to lines 31, 32, 33 leading to the units. The units 20, 21, 22 are of large capacity and controlled by valves 38, 39, 40 which connect the large capacity low-pressure pump 24 to lines 41, 42, 43 leading to the units. When any of the units 20, 21, 22 are in operation and the resistance against movement is low, the output from the high-pressure pump acts through a by-pass 61 and check valve 63 to be added to the output of pump 24. As the resistance to movement of the unit increases, the pressure at the inlet 67 from the large capacity pump 24 acts on a portion 81 of the unloader 80 which is moved to connect the output from the pump to a return passage 78 connected by a line 52 to a reservoir 53, the unit then being operated by the high-pressure pump 23 only. Check valves 73, 74 are provided to prevent back-pressure from the units acting on the system. A relief valve 79 limits the maximum pressure from the high-pressure pump 23.
