Abstract

A supported film of organic electrical insulating material which can readily be stripped from its support is obtained by depositing or joining a layer of the material on to a carrier the surface of which has been previously impregnated or coated with a mixture consisting of or including at least one hydrocarbon having a melting point of at least 60 DEG C. and a high molecular weight organic polymer adhesive. The preferred mixture is 40% polyethylene or polypropylene having a molecular weight of approximately 1,000-3,000 and a melting point of approximately 105 DEG C., 48% of a wax having a melting point of approximately 110 DEG C., and 12% of polybutylene having a molecular weight of approximately 1,000 to 3,000. In examples, a carrier in the form p of a paper bond is impregnated with the mixture and then the roll unwound and heated and passed through smoothing rolls. Then, either a previously formed film of cellulose acetate of 4m thickness or a lacquer of cellulose acetate, benzyl cellulose, polystyrene, polytetrafluoroethylene or polyethylene terephthalate in a solvent is deposited on the carrier and the solvent removed to leave a film, and finally a coating of aluminium deposited in vacuo on the film. The supported film may be used in the production of electrical condensers. Specification 803,173 is referred to.
