Abstract

Tertiary aminopolyols of the general formula <FORM:0910333/IV(a)/1> in which R4 is an ethylene or propylene radical or a mixture of said ethylene radicals, x is a number of at least one and R is a hydrogen atom or an N:N-bis(hydroxypolyalkyleneoxy) phenyl group of the structure <FORM:0910333/IV(a)/2> are made by reacting at a temperature of from 110 DEG to 170 DEG C. ethylene and/or propylene oxide in the presence of a catalyst and in the absence of water with 4:41-methylene dianiline or 4:41:411-methylidyne trianiline. Specified catalysts are sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and potassium t-butoxide. Examples are given. The products of the invention may be converted by reaction with polyisocyanates into polyurethane foams.ALSO:Tertiary aminopolyols of the general formula <FORM:0910333/IV (b)/1> in which R4 is an alkylene or propylene radical or a mixture of said alkylene radicals, x is a number of at least one and R is a hydrogen atom or an N:N-bis(hydroxypolyalkyleneoxy) aminophenyl group of the structure <FORM:0910333/IV (b)/2> are made by reacting at a temperature of from 110 to 170 DEG C. ethylene and/or propylene oxide in the presence of a catalyst and in the absence of water with 4:41-methylene dianiline or 4:41:411-methylidyne trianiline. Specified catalysts are sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide and potassium t-butoxide. Examples are given.
