Abstract
909,398. Electric copying machines. SPERRY GYROSCOPE CO. Ltd. Aug. 21, 1959 [Sept. 12, 1958], No. 29356/58. Class 38 (6). [Also in Group XXII] A lathe is provided with a feeler-member 15 arranged to be moved along a path parallel to the lathe bed in accordance with the rotation of the work-spindle 5, and an electrical device 10 having one part 11 fixed relative to the saddle and another part 13 movable relative thereto by the feeler-member, the saddle being movable along the bed by a motor 2 arranged to be controlled from the electrical device to maintain its two parts in a predetermined relationship. One saddle 1 is driven by an hydraulic motor 2 which drives through gearing a pinion 20 co-operating with a rack 21. Hydraulic fluid is supplied from a source 6 through an electro-hydraulic control valve 7. The latter is operated by an electrical copying device 10 carried by an adjustable support 11 attached to the saddle. The feeler-member 15 biased by a spring 17 forms part of the copying device and this is adapted to engage a pilot lead-screw 3. The lead-screw is driven from the headstock spindle 5 through change-gears 4. A switch 51 enables an additional " velocity-error " signal described in Specification 29351/58 (referred to in the Provisional Specification) to be applied to the arrangement.
