In a capstan &c. lathe having a tool-turret d on a slide c carried by a saddle b, the forward end of the slide is supported by a bridge f on the lathe-bed a. Guide-strips j (Fig. 2, not shown), are provided between edges h on bed a and the sides of the bridge, which is clamped to the slide. A rack-and-pinion gear (not shown), operated by levers e, moves the slide relatively to the saddle, the movement being limited by stops k. The Provisional Specification refers also to a recess in the saddle to receive part of the bridge when the slide is retracted.
