Abstract
909,117. Distribution systems; two-part couplings. TELEMECANIQUE ELECTRIQUE. July 8, 1960 [Sept. 11, 1959], No. 23982/60. Classes 36 and 38 (1). A junction element enabling a supply to be tapped from main conductor bars, carried in a conduit, consists of conductor bars held in insulators in a split conduit and having secured to their ends, spring-pressed projecting clamp connectors, which can be passed through an opening in the main conduit to grip the main conductor bars, the junction element being secured in place by a U-member encircling the main conduit. Fig. 1 shows the junction member having the upper half la of the conduit shorter than the lower half 1b, the conductor bars 3 being of intermediate length and an aperture 23 in the lower conduit part 1b being arranged opposite the ends of bars 3, being closed by a cover. The conductor bars 3 are supported by insulators 4 held in the two unequal halves of the conduit 1a, 1b, and are held in longitudinal position by several bars of non- conducting material 18 (Fig. 5) passing through the conduit and conductor bars. The junction element can be extended by extention lengths, consisting of two equal halves of conduit displaced longitudinally containing a set of conductor bars 31 (Fig. 8), equal in length to the conduit halves and placed in the conduit so as to abut (Fig. 10, not shown) with the ends of conductors 3, when the largest principal conductor bars are clamped onto. To keep the dimension D (Fig. 8) constant, with different sizes of main circuit conductor bars, the holes 30 in the longer half of conduit section 1b, allowing for connection to the extention length of conduit, are elongated and U-pieces 29 are welded on to the sections 1a, 1b, enabling the junction element to slide longitudinally with respect to the main circuit conductor bars. The conductor bars are terminated in clamps 11 (Fig. 5) projecting from the end of the conduit la, 1b and secured to the conductor bars by bolts 13 which also hold springs 12 against the split jaws (Fig. 6, not shown) of clamp 11, increasing their resilience. The clamps 11 are enclosed in insulating sleeves 14 of the same width as the distance between the conductor bars, and having openings 14a to allow access to the jaws of the clamp. The sleeves are held in place by the non-conducting rod 15 and by the end of the sleeves abutting with the first insulator 4 (Fig. 1). The bar 15 also passes through an earthing bar 7 running parallel with the conductors, and forced into contact with the corresponding strip in the principal circuit conduit by spring 16. Angle 20 (Fig. 4, not shown), is fixed to the longer conduit section 1b, and has threaded clamp 21 passed through the face 20a (Fig. 2) which lies flush with the end of conduit 1a, 1b. In use the junction may be required to couple on to the principal circuit conduit at some other angle than 90 degrees, for this connection face 20a and end of conduit sections 1a, 1b are inclined at the required angle to the conductor bar axis.
