Abstract

909,089. Rotary pumps and motors. EICKMANN, K. Oct. 17, 1958 [Oct. 19, 1957; Dec. 31, 1957], No. 13374/62. Divided out of 903,037. Class 110 (2). A rotary pump (or motor) comprises a rotor assembly mounted on a non-rotating pintle 62, Figs. 1 and 2, and eccentrically within the inner ring 30 of an anti-friction bearing whose outer ring 33 is provided with an arm 80 to adjust the eccentricity and hence the output of the pump. The pintle which is formed with passages 59, 63 conveying fluid to and from pump chambers 28 is prevented from rotating by a universal joint 12a connecting the pintle to a housing 32 secured to the pump or motor casing 32a. Peripheral pintle grooves 18, 19 communicating with the passage 59 and peripheral pintle grooves 20, 21 communicating with the passage 63 together with the ends 59a, 63a of the passages permit fluid-pressure balancing of the pintle and the rotor assembly to " float " thereon. Fluid connections 3, 8 opening into the housing 32 and communicating respectively with the passages 59, 63 are sealed from each other and other parts of the housing 32 by sealing means each comprising sleeves 67, 68 urged apart by springs 7 and in the case of the high pressure connection by fluid pressure. The sleeves 67, 68 have part-spherical surfaces engaging complementary surfaces on sealing rings 9, 6 which also have plane surfaces engaging liner members 66, 69; the liner members being held against outward movement by retaining clips 10, 5 and sealed with respect to the housing 32 by packing rings 65, 70. The motor assembly comprises a ring member 31 and end plates 35 sandwiched between casing members 34 and a bush 26, all connected together and to a driven (or driving) shaft 38. On rotation of the rotor assembly vanes 53 fitted with packing 55 slide in radial slots 17 formed in the ring member 31 and the end plates 35. Ducts 56, 57 in the pintle connect the passages 63, 59 to the opposite ends of a transverse cylinder 51 in which slides a valve piston 52 to connect the passage 59, 63 at the higher pressure to a passage 50 which in turn is connected by a passage 40, chamber 43 and a passage 48 to the slots 17 to urge the vanes 53 outwardly. The chamber 43 is sealed against leakage by sealing means of similar construction to that associated with the connections 8, 3. An annular pintle groove 60 connected by a radial port 61 to the passage 63 provides lubrication between the pintle and the rotor assembly. Specification 909,088 also is referred to.
