[Also in Groups XX and XL (a)] A cathode-ray tube 19, for the reception of stereoscopic television or the simultaneous reception of two distinct pictures, comprises a faceplate consisting of a plurality of lightconducting fibres such that light emitted through preselected groups of fibres is differently characterized and separately identifiable from light emitted through others. As shown, conventional television cameras 10, 11 simultaneously photograph a single object 12 from slightly different angles using an interlaced scanning system, i.e. a frame comprising a first field of odd-numbered scanning lines and a second field of even-numbered scanning lines. The video signals are passed through a mixer 13 such that transmitter 14 receives only the first field from camera 10 and the second field from camera 11 in each frame. In the receiver 19 the odd-numbered scanning lines correspond to fibres which only transmit light of one colour or are associated with polarized light-conducting material, the remaining fibres only transmitting light of a different colour or being associated with differently polarized light-conducting material. A stereoscopic effect is obtained by viewing the screen through spectacles provided with corresponding light coloured or polarized filters. Similarly, by using cameras 10, 11 to photograph two distinct objects, either of two distinct pictures may be viewed at receiver 19 by the use of appropriate spectacles.
