Abstract
908,685. Television. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 26, 1959 [March 11, 1958], No. 7735/58. Class 40 (3). The effect of lag in a television pick-up tube 1 is reduced by applying the output signal to produce an image on a cathode-ray tube 4, viewing the image by a second pick-up tube 5 which also exhibits lag so as to produce a signal having a lag component of greater amplitude (i.e. a component due to tube 1 plus that due to tube 5), and subtracting in a stage 8 the signal from tube 5 from that due to tube 1 which is applied to stage 8 via an amplifier 7. Preferably the luminance of the image produced by tube 4 and the optical transmission of lens 6 are chosen so that the lag of tube 5 equals the lag of tube 1. It is shown that under these conditions, if the signal from tube 1 is amplified to twice the amplitude of that from tube 5, the lag components substantially cancel in the output of subtractor 8. Reference is made to photo-conductive, photoemissive and image-type pick-up tubes, and also tubes responsive to infra-red and X-rays. The invention may be applied to framesequential or simultaneous colour television by the provision of a display tube 4 and pick-up tube 5 combination for each colour component. Alternatively a single combination may be provided for a luminance signal formed by appropriate combination of the component colour signals. By attenuating the high frequency components produced by pick-up tube the high frequency components appearing at the output of subtractor 8 may be accentuated to introduce aperture correction.
