A one-piece moulded shuttlecock skirt has in its upper region E not less than 7 and not more than 25 stems whose average depth in this region is at least twice and not more than eight times their average width in the same region. Depth is measured in the direction J, Fig. 3, and width in the direction K. There are large air spaces H between the stems and the side surfaces of the stems are directly exposed to air flow through these spaces. The stems are attached at their lower end to a tube M constituting part of an end ring. The lower region C of the skirt constitutes the vane area and occupies not less than 30% and not more than 70% of the total skirt length. The stems may taper both in depth and width and may be arranged so that the centre line through their depth is radial, Fig. 3. Alternatively, this centre line may be inclined to a radius, Fig. 9, to cause or control spin in flight. Alternatively or additionally, spin may be caused or controlled by laying back the stems, Fig. 10, so that the projection of the centre line along the outside surface of a stem does not pass through any point on the main axis of the shuttlecock but passes through a circle generated from the main axis of the shuttlecock in a plane perpendicular to that axis. As shown in Fig. 1, widely spaced rings P may be provided which extend right round the shuttlecock. The striking cap may be of kid covered cork.
