Abstract
861,649. Shuttlecocks. CARLTON GENERAL DISTRIBUTORS (SHUTTLECOCKS) Ltd. April 11, 1957, No. 11854/57. Class 132(3). A shuttlecock consists of a cap A and a balanced flared. skirt B, the skirt being made of artificial material and incorporating straight stiffeners C with air spaces between them, at least two of the stiffeners as regards crosssection being asymmetrically arranged in relation to a diameter, e.g. Y<SP>1</SP> Y<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, so that, in flight, air passing through the skirt causes the 'shuttlecock to spin. As described in relation to Fig. 3, the spin is produced by a force D<SP>1</SP> resulting from the action of air on the surfaces E<SP>1</SP> and F of each stiffener C<SP>2</SP>. The stiffeners may have other cross-sections (Figs. 2 and 4, not shown).
