Abstract
A composition for coating metallic structures comprises a porous lightweight aggregate 95% of which will pass a No. 8 United States Sieve (0,0937 in. aperture) and not more than 2% of which will pass a No. 80 United States Sieve (0,0070 in. aperture) coated with paraffin wax or a hydrocarbon which has a softening point of 120 DEG -180 DEG F., and in intimate admixture with a heat stable resin or an asphalt crushed to pass 1/4 in. sieve. Suitable aggregates include expanded perlite, granulated cork, pumice, cellular volcanic rock, fused aerated clays, cellular phenolaldehyde resins, silicone resins and polyurethane. Asphalts may replace the wax. Suitable resins include coal tars, natural rosins, polystyrene, polyethylene, polypropylene, polyamides, vinyl resins and chlorinated rubbers. The structures which may be coated include pipes, conduits and tanks.ALSO:A composition for coating metallic structures comprises a porous lightweight aggregate 95% of which will pass a No. 8 United States Sieve (0,0937 inch aperture) and not more than 2% of which will pass a No. 80 United States Sieve (0,0070 inch aperture) coated with paraffin wax or a hydrocarbon which has a softening point of 120 DEG -180 DEG F., and an intimate admixture with a heat stable resin or an asphalt crushed to pass 1/4 inch sieve.
