Abstract
908,449. Heat-treating vessels. NORTH EASTERN GAS BOARD, and CLAYTON, SON & CO. Ltd. March 15, 1961 [March 15, 1960], No. 9038/60. Class 72. A metal shell structure such as a welded fabricated cylindrical vessel 1 is heat-treated by surrounding it with an insulating material 2 to prevent heat losses and circulating within or through the vessel hot gases consisting of combustion products from one or more highvelocity burners 8, e.g. gas-burners, which are injected, e.g. at 400 m.p.h., into the vessel to produce and maintain a uniform elevated temperature over its inner surface. Preferably, the jet of gases is projected across an opening 9 into one or more tubular distributer devices 3 provided with apertures 4 which distribute the gases uniformly throughout the vessel's interior. Control of hot gas distribution may be obtained by one or more counter-jets of compressed-air supplied through the pipes 10 and 11. The burner mixture may be adjusted to provide reducing, neutral or oxidizing conditions.
