Abstract
908,355. Automatic voltage control systems. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Oct. 23, 1959 [Dec. 23, 1958], No. 36046/59. Class 38 (4). In an automatic voltage regulation system in which the excitation of an alternator is controlled in response to the output of an A.C. voltage error measuring circuit across the alternator output and of the kind disclosed in Specification 901,785, the excessive field excitation which would be called for by a large drop in alternator speed is prevented by an override circuit. The measuring circuit consists basically of a circuit (not shown) which is responsive to changes in frequency and an opposing circuit 14, 15 which is responsive to changes in both frequency and amplitude. There is additionally provided a transformer 26 and rectifier 28, the output of which is in parallel with that of rectifier 14. Under normal conditions the output of rectifier 14 exceeds that of rectifier 28, but if the frequency falls below a predetermined value, the output of rectifier 14 will fall below that of rectifier 28 and rectifier 28 takes over. The alternator output is thus allowed to fall with falling frequency. In a three-phase embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), the output current of a three-phase rectifier fed from two single-phase transformers provides the override.
