Abstract
908,057. Alternators; transformers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 16, 1959 [July 25, 1958], No. 24052/58. Classes 35 and 38 (2). In a synchronous A.C. generator arranged to be self-excited and self-regulated by connecting its field winding to its output terminals and including in its excitation circuit the secondary winding of an air-gapped current transformer whose primary winding carries the generator output current, the transformer windings 11 are supported on an outer annular magnetic core 10 forming part of the generator and located coaxial with the generator rotor 3, the magnetic flux generated by the primary winding flowing through a magnetic path constituted partly by an inner magnetic core 12 also coaxial with the rotor 3 and separated from the annular core 10 by a cylindrical air-gap 13. The transformer is housed in an extension 9 of the generator casing end shield; the inner core 12 may carry cooling air circulating fins 14 and be mounted either on the rotor shaft 4 for rotation therewith or stationarily. A rectifier connected in the excitation circuit may be located in the vicinity of the transformer. The generator stator 2 and rotor 3 have windings 7, 8 forming respectively the armature and field, or vice versa. Specification 844,688 is referred to.
