Abstract

907,696. Automatic exchange systems. FERNMELDEWERK ARNSTADT VEB. Oct. 21, 1959, No. 35684/59. Class 40 (4). A cross-point for a switching matrix comprises between the two legs of a horizontal circuit a condenser C 1 , a semi-conductor switching device D3, a centre-tapped coil T.Dr, a further semi-conductor switching device D2 and a codenser C, the vertical legs being connected to the sides of the condensers nearest the coil by further semi-conductor switching devices D, D1. The semi-conductor devices are normally backbiased to the non-conducting state but to establish a connection the back bias is increased to bring the device to the breakdown condition. The semi-conductor devices may be Zener diodes the connection being established by increasing the potential difference applied between the centre tap of coil TDr and the centre tap of a coil V.Dr connected across the vertical legs. The semi-conductor switch may, however, be double-based diodes or Shockley diodes in which case switching is effected by utilizing one of the flanks of a pulse applied across the centre taps of the coils. As shown connection between two subscribers, say Tln 1 and Tln 100 can be effected by operating the top and bottom cross points of the left-hand column. Talking battery is applied over the centre taps of coils connected across the subscribers' lines, this battery being blocked from the cross point switches by the condensers associated therewith. A cross point network using such cross points is also described for connecting inlets connected to the verticals to outlets connected to the horizontals, the inlets to the verticals also containing an enabling switch of the same type, Fig. 2 (not shown).
