Abstract

907,443. Making fibrous mats. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. April 5, 1961 [May 5, 1960], No. 12123/61. Classes 120 (1) and 120 (3). Fibrous mats, particularly of glass fibres, are formed by passing fibres that are to be deposited on a perforated suction conveyer through guides having a frequency of oscillation exceeding 250 oscillations per minute. It is stated that oscillation frequencies of this order result in fibres being laid across the width of conveyers very uniformly. In an example, guide members 11 formed from two aprons 6 to 7 cms. in height and located 150 cms. above a conveyer were actuated at 400 strokes per minute. The fibre producing unit A may be located above the longitudinal axis of the conveyer or may be offset. Two or more units A may deposit fibres on a single conveyer.
