Abstract
907,224. Feeding articles. GUEST, KEEN & NETTLEFOLDS (MIDLANDS) Ltd. Feb. 19, 1960 [Nov. 22, 1958], No. 37652/58. Class 78 (1). Screws are contained in magazines 12, (Fig. 1), and the magazines are carried circumferentially by carrier 50. The carrier is freely supported on inclined shaft 15 driven continuously from pulley 16. The screws pass by gravity from the top magazine 12 and fall down rails 32 for delivery to a screw-driver. Whilst one screw remains in the magazine it engages lugs 30 on fixture 29 and prevents rotation of the carrier. As soon as the last screw drops down rails 32, the carrier is driven from the constantlyrotating shaft 15 by means of arm 26, the ball 27 of which engages, as it rotates, with cup 28 of the carrier. When the carrier has rotated to bring the next magazine into alignment with rails 32, the first screw of this magazine will engage lugs 32 and stop the carrier and will then slide down rails 32 as before. Delivery to screwdriver (Fig. 3). The screws which slide down rails 32 are delivered one-byone to screwdriver 11 via pivoted quadrant 35 and fingers 47. Thus the bottom screw falls into a slot in quadrant 35 which is oscillated by means of linkage 44, 41, 42, 39, 40 to swing the screw to the left. At this point, fingers 47, operated by linkage 55, 53, 50, seize the screw from out of its slot and carry it along the path shown to the screwdriver 11 whilst rack 52 of quadrant 35 engages pinion 51 of fingers 47 to swivel the screw through 180 degrees before delivering it to the screwdriver.
