Abstract

906,987. Making silage; forage harvesters. LODDON ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Jan. 22, 1960 [Aug. 6, 1959], No. 26959/59. Classes 5(1) and 6(3). A method of making silage comprises mixing with the green crop as it is being harvested, a chemical which promotes fermentation. The crop is harvested and lacerated by beaters 5 pivotally mounted on a drum which is rotatably supported beneath a hood 50 on a tractor-drawn frame 1. The chemical compound to be mixed with the crop is housed in a hopper 10 and is discharged therefrom in controlled quantities via the shoot 20 leading into the hood 50. The mixed crop and chemical is then discharged from the harvester through the shoot 7.
