[Also in Group XXXV] A laminated magnetic casing for an electric machine such as a motor, generator electromagnetic coupling or a variable-speed induction coupling, is made by forming longitudinally seamed sleeves from metal plates e.g. by rolling, assembling the sleeves concentrically with staggered seams, inserting a cylindrical former within the assembled sleeves, pressing the sleeves around the former and securing them together. The former is provided with grooves positioned under the seams and providing access for one of a pair of resistance spot-welding electrodes with which spot welds A are made on each side of each seams to secure the laminations 10a, 10b, 10c together. The sleeves are rolled from silicon iron sheet and are held around the former by slings. In a modification, the sleeves are bonded together by a synthetic resin adhesive.
