Abstract

The invention comprises coronary-dilating compounds of the general formula:- <FORM:0905903/IV (b)/1> in which R represents methyl, b -phenylethyl or a -phenylpropyl, one of the letters a or c stands for the group -OCH2CH2X and the remaining letters stand for hydrogen, and X represents a dimethylamino or diethylamino group or a hydrogen halide of the same, or stands for a quaternary nitrogen atom so associated with methyl or ethyl groups that the derivative associated with a halogen is a tri-methyl or triethyl quaternary amine, together with processes for their preparation by reacting the appropriate o- or p-hydroxy substituted ketone or an alkali metal derivative thereof with the appropriate b -dialkylaminoethyl halide or its hydrochloride in the presence of a condensation agent which causes the condensation of the two reactants with the removal of hydrogen halide or an alkali metal halide. Detailed examples illustrate the invention.
