Abstract
905,878. Propellent compositions. YAMAMOTO, A. Oct. 19, 1960 [Oct. 21, 1959], No. 35872/60. Class 9 (2). A propellent charge is obtained by moulding under pressure a particulate composition comprising (a) a powdered perchlorate, nitrate or permanganate or a mixture thereof, (b) paraformaldehyde, a polymethylene glycol or a polymethylene or a mixture, and (c) a polyisocyanate or polyisothiocyanate having at least two such groups per molecule, or a sodium bisulphite addition product thereof and subjecting the product to curing at 40-120‹ C. Specified compounds are (a) ammonium nitrate, lithium nitrate, sodium nitrate, potassium nitrate, ammonium perchlorate, lithium perchlorate, sodium perchlorate, potassium perchlorate and potassium permanganate; (c) ethylene-, trimethylene-, tetramethylene-, pentamethylene-, hexamethylene-, heptamethylene-, octamethylene-, nonamethylene-, and decamethylene-diisocyanates; phenylene diisocyanate, chlorophenylene diisocyanate, tolylene diisocyanate, naphthylene diisocyanate, triphenylmethane triisocyanate, diphenylmethane diisocyanate, dimethylbiphenylene diisocyanate, dianidisine diisocyanate and dixylidinemethane diisocyanate; and trimethylene-, tetramethylene-, and hexamethylene-diisocyanates. Solvents such as chlorobenzene, anisole, nitrobenzene, ethyl acetate and butyl acetate, and hardeners such as glycols, diamines, urea and amino acids may also be added.
