Abstract
905,829. Automatic feed weighers. FAIRMILE DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. Sept. 24, 1958 [June 26, 1957], No. 20223/57. Class 143. A device for automatically weighing out grain comprises a length of trunking 3 through which the grain is fed to a container, such as the sack 1, on a weighing platform 4 and is characterized by a feed valve in the form of a member 12 movable between a closed position in which it extends across the axis of the trunking to close it and an open position in which it uncovers substantially the whole cross-section of the trunking, the valve being biased, as by a spring 16, into the closed position shown in full lines and retained in the open position shown in broken lines by a catch 22 automatically released on the completion of the feed of a predetermined weight by an electromagnet 24 energized by a switch 30 operated directly by the weighing mechanism and with its armature 23 directly connected to the catch 22. A lever 18 may retain the valve closed as shown until a new feeding operation is required. This lever may be operated by means (not shown) connecting it to the sack-retaining hooks 2 so that the attachment of a sack to the apparatus initiates the feed. The switch 30 may additionally operate an alarm when feed stops and/or a counter of the number of weighings made. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 3, not shown), the pivoted valve member 12 is replaced by a rectilinear slide.
