[Also in Group XXXIII] The thrust of jet reaction nozzles used for exerting torques on an aircraft is varied by controlling the outlet area. In Fig. 9, the effective area of nozzle 53 is varied by a single shutter 52 pivotable about axis 100. In Fig. 10, the area of nozzle 1 is varied by clam shell doors 25 geared together to rotate equally in opposite senses about pivot 26. Specifications 861,480 and 899,862 are referred to.
