Abstract

The invention comprises sulpha-triazines of the formula <FORM:0905544/IV (b)/1> wherein R1 and R2 are ethyl, n-propyl or isopropyl groups and R is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl or alkanoyl group of 1-6 carbon atoms and, in the case where R is an alkyl or alkanoyl group, the sulphanilyl-imino-dihydrotriazine isomers of I wherein the R substituent is on the 1- or 3-position of the triazine ring. It comprises also the preparation of these compounds by reacting 2-halo-, 2-thioether or 2-etherified hydroxy-derivative of the appropriate 4,6-dialkyl triazine with the anion of a p-substituted sulphonamide A.C6H4.SO2NH2, wherein A is an amino group or a group convertible to amino by reduction or hydrolysis, where necessary, converting A into an amino group and, if desired, converting the resulting product wherein R is hydrogen into the corresponding alkali-metal, alkyl or alkanoyl derivative. Specified products include the 2-sulphanilamido- 4,6-diethyl- and 4,6-di-n-propyl-, triazines, N1-methyl-sulpha-4,6-diethyl-triazine and 2 - sulphanilimido - 1 - methyl-4,6-diethyl-1,2-dihydro-triazine. Triazine derivatives used as starting materials bearing an alkoxy, aryloxy, alkylthio or arylthio group in the 2-position and substituents R1 and R2 in the 4- and 6- positions are made by reacting an O-alkyl or O-aryl isourea or S-alkyl or S-aryl isothiourea salt with an imidate R111C(:NH).O-alkyl, wherein R111 is an ethyl, n-propyl or isopropyl group. 2,4-Diethyl-6-chloro-s-triazine is made by reducing 2,4-bis(a ,a -dichloroethyl)-6-hydroxy-s-triazine with zinc dust and ammonia and treating the resulting 6 - hydroxy compound with phosphorus pentachloride.
