Abstract
905,446. Utilizing wave energy. SHAUGHNESSY, T. W. July 3, 1961 [July 4, 1960], No. 23228/60. Class 69 (1). An assembly for converting wave energy to rotational motion comprises a casing E for an asymmetrically weighted annulus A, a main shaft S, a train of gear-wheels G and a flywheel F; the assembly being activated by changes in the centre of buoyancy of a floating vessel (not shown) in which the assembly is mounted. The asymmetry is produced by a lead weight H which is shaped to fit into a compartment H of the annulus A. The annulus has strengthening ribs P and is mounted on ball bearings B on the shaft S. The annulus is geared to the shaft K which connects by way of the gears G with a flywheel F whose rotation biases the mechanism in favour of unidirectional motion.
