Abstract

905,094. Bolted joints. CORREIA DE SA., A. June 28, 1960, No. 22650/60. Class 83 (4). A method of securing together in angular relationship a pair of hollow members such as frame sections, comprises the steps of inserting into an end of each member one of the limbs of an L-shaped part and a wedge, which wedge has its narrower end directed toward the junction of the limbs of said L-shaped part, and drawing said wedges inside said members toward the junction of the limbs of said L- shaped part so that said wedges jam between said limbs and the interiors of said members to secure said members in angular relationship. In an embodiment the abutting ends of two frame members are cut to 45 degrees so that they may be assembled at right angles to one another and a hole is drilled in one of the members to permit passage of a screw, Fig. 1. The L-shaped part 1, Fig. 2, for joining the members is striated on its outer faces and each limb is tapered to accommodate wedges 3 which are adjusted by means of screws 4 passing through the limbs. To secure the members one limb of the L-shaped part 1 is inserted into the hollow frame of one of the members and firmly attached by means of the wedge 3 and screw 4. The other member is similarly attached to the other limb of the L-shaped part and the screw 4 is inserted through the hole previously drilled in the other member.
