Abstract

905,005. Change-speed control. LEMFORDER METALLWARENGESELLSCHAFT. Sept. 14, 1959 [Sept. 24, 1958], No. 31295/59. Class 80 (2). For gentler changes with reduced vibration and noise in a manual gear change lever 1 comprising a hemispherical fulcrum member 4 spring-urged into a spherical socket, not shown, and, at the end of its short arm 3, a ball head 7 having fixed thereto a pin 9 engageable with the gear change elements, the hemispherical member 4 and the ball head 7 are of resilient, oil and abrasion-resistant, synthetic plastic material which may comprise or consist of polyurethane, be admixed with molybdenum disulphide, silicone oil and/or hydrocarbon to reduce frictional resistance, and be formed on the lever by a moulding process. As shown, a metallic insert 5 fast on the lever 1, and having, for lateral rigidity, a flange 6 surrounded by the plastic, reinforces the periphery of the hemispherical member 4. The ball head 7 has an integral lateral bulge 8 to replace a known ball detent.
