In a stern for a ship having a single screw propeller 1, an open screw propeller aperture 4 between the stern frame and a suspended rudder 3 and a stern collar 2 providing a thrust bearing surface for the screw propeller, the boundary line of the stern in the control longitudinal plane of the ship, between the outer diameter of the stern collar and the base line of the ship 6, is formed as a constant curve tangential with the base line or its junction therewith, the tangent to the control at the stern collar making an angle of not more than 21 degrees with the base line.
