Abstract

903,859 Making wire baskets. REEVES, L. March 13, 1961 [Feb. 11, 1961], No. 5167/61. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XVII] A wire fish basket comprises upper and lower rims connected by double members each coiled round the upper rim and each having a portion above that rim to form a hand grip, these double members extending down the sides to coil round the lower rim and then to extend into the bottom in which they then bend in a transverse direction, at least one of the double members being bent outwards to continue transversely to and round the lower rim and then up the sides to the upper rim to which its ends are welded, and welded connections being made at its bends in the bottom with the bends in the other double member, which bends inwards at these positions, or to two corners of a rectangle of wire, the other two corners of which are similarly welded to corners of the other double member which in this case is also bent outwards to continue transversely to and round the lower rim and then up the sides to the upper rim to which its ends are welded. The upper rim 1 and lower rim 2 are of heavy gauge aluminium wire and are each welded together at 3. The part of the double members A and B which forms the hand grips is wound with a lighter gauge wire 4. Fig. 1 shows a circular basket in which the sides and the bottom are covered with an aluminium mesh 16. A wooden shoe 18 is positioned within the lower rim under the mesh and is bolted to a thinner wooden plate 20 above the mesh. Fig. 5 shows a frame for an oval basket which comprises two similar double members C and D and a wire rectangle 33 which is welded at its corners to the bends joining the parts 28 and 29 of each of the double members.
