Abstract

A soap tablet comprises, by weight of the tablet, (a) 5 - 30%, preferably 7,5 - 15%, of a surface active calcium or magnesium alkylaryl sulphonate, and (b) 3 - 15%, preferably 4 - 8%, of a fatty acid alkanol-amide, or a mixture thereof with a fatty acid amide, in which latter case the amide is present in an amount of not more than twice the weight of alkanolamide. (a) is preferably a magnesium alkylbenzene sulphonate in which the alkyl radical has 8 - 18 carbon atoms, most suitably the dodecyl- or pentadecylbenzene sulphonate. The fatty acyl groups present in the alkanolamide and amide (b) usually contain 8 - 18, preferably 10 - 14, carbon atoms and are generally derived from lauric acid or from coconut or palm kernel oil fatty acids; the alkanolamide is usually a mono- or di-ethanolamide, or an isopropanolamide. The tablet may also contain 0,5 - 5% of a solid surface active alkylene oxide condensate, especially an ethylene oxide adduct of a fatty alcohol or alkylphenol. Opacifying agents, colour, perfume, and germicides may also be included.
