Abstract

903,714. Quenching coke. WOODALL-DUCKHAM CONSTRUCTION CO. Ltd. March 16, 1960 [April 10, 1959], No. 12300/59. Class 51(2). Coke-quenching equipment for a horizontal coke oven battery 1 comprises a quenching tower 5 driven by a motor 10 on rails 6, a coke car 9, sprays 24, 25 fed from a storage tank 14 on said tower, a water supply flume 19 extending along the battery, and electrically driven pumps 17 with connections 18 into flume 19 with a feedpipe 16 to said tank 14. A return flume 29 discharges surplus water to settling tanks 30, from which a pump 31 delivers water to flume 19 in which the water level is controlled by a weir 32 discharging into the tanks 30. As the coke car moves through the tower in front of a shrouded coke guide 20, pusher ram 4 discharges coke 3 below spray 24 into the moving car which engages a ramp 28 actuating valves 26 controlling each spray 25 in turn. The quenching tower may have the arrangements disclosed in Specifications 837,398 and 844,596. Pusher ram 4 and coke guide 20 may be correctly positioned by one of the systems disclosed in Specifications 720,469, 729,964, 741,398, 745,509, 768,809, 770,887, 801,116 and 801,117. Operation of the ram 4 before coke car 9 is correctly positioned may be prevented by the system disclosed in Specification 903,711.
