903,534. Mould and core materials. DAUSSAN, H. J. Nov. 25, 1960 [Nov. 28, 1959; Feb. 24, 1960; Oct. 25, 1960], No. 40545/60. Class 83 (1). [Also in Group VIII] A screen for protecting the sides of an ingot mould from the splashing of the pouring jet is made by tightly rolling a strip which after insertion in the mould will unwind to an extent which leaves the ends of the strip superposed. A fire-proofed corrugated cardboard strip 1, Fig. 1, is reinforced with metal strips 3 and the ends BC bent so that when the coil I, Fig. 5, unwinds in the mould E<SP>1</SP> the ends engage, Fig. 7. The screen may be made of two strips A, Fig. 8. In a modification, Fig. 15, a loop 16 is attached to the strip and prevents complete unwinding of the coil. The loop 16 may retain the tight coils until the screen is inserted into the mould, e.g. as by the use of ties 26, Fig. 20, which are then freed by pulling to allow the screen to expand.
