Abstract
902,876. Tea-making apparatus. BEST PRODUCTS Ltd. May 24, 1960 [Feb. 27, 1959], No. 6834/59. Class 129. In tea-making apparatus wherein water is automatically delivered on boiling, the boiling vessel is mounted on a lamp housing at least partly constructed of light transmitting material. As shown, Fig. 1, the lamp 7 is mounted centrally in a translucent sleeve of synthetic plastic, e.g. polymethyl methacrylate disposed between the kettle 2 and the base 3, the whole being bolted together. Alternatively, the housing may be of metal with windows. The kettle lid is secured by a bayonet fitting and has a vent hole 22. The kettle heating element 16 is controlled by a switch 13 actuated by a spring-loaded member 23, 24 which forms one of the base feet so that switch 13 is closed when the kettle is filled. An audible alarm 15 is provided which is shorted when switch 13 is closed. In operation, with a manual switch 14 off, the kettle 2 is filled with water. When the tea is required, switch 14 is closed and the water is heated until it boils when the pressure syphons it through spout 26 into a tea-pot containing tea leaves placed at the side of the apparatus. The apparatus is then rocked forward as switch 13 opens, buzzer 15 sounds and the circuit to lamp 7 is closed. When switch 14 is turned off, buzzer 15 stops but lamp 7 stays on until the kettle is refilled. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), a vessel consisting of two compartments forming the kettle and a tea-pot is mounted on the translucent sleeve. In a further modification, a separate kettle and tea-pot are joined together and mounted on the translucent sleeve.
