Abstract

902,715. Grinding. BANKO, G. Dec. 23, 1959, No. 43730/59. Class 60. A compound angle grinding attachment, for surface grinding machines having a motor-driven wheel spindle, includes a stationary table adapted to be secured in various angular positions, a sub-table slidably mounted on the underside of said stationary table, an auxiliary spindle with a pulley and grinding-wheel mounted thereon journalled on said sub-table, a worm housing mounted on the stationary table, a worm shaft journalled therein and including a pulley, a crank-shaft journalled in the stationary table perpendicular to the lower face thereof and including a worm gear engaged with the worm shaft, a crank-arm mounted on said crank-shaft below the stationary table and rotatable with the crank-shaft, and a connecting-rod means pivotally connected at one end to the sub-table and at the other end to said crank-arm, to reciprocate said sub-table longitudinally of said stationary table upon rotation of said crank-arm. A bracket 11 has a split collar 12 embracing the housing 67 of the motor-driven grinding- wheel spindle 29 of a surface grinding machine 30. The bracket is secured, by tightening a bolt 14, in the desired angular position as indicated by a scale or part 13 of the bracket cooperating with a pointer 35 mounted on the column 31 of the machine. A table 15 is pivotally secured to the underside of the bracket 11 by a bolt 22 and is secured, by tightening bolt 22 and also bolts 18, 19 located in arcuate slots 16, 17 in the bracket 11, in the desired angular position as indicated by a scale 28 on the table 15. A sub-table 49 is slidably mounted on the underside of the table 15 and has journalled therein a spindle 62 carrying a grinding-wheel 64 and a double sheave pulley 63 driven by resilient belts 70 from a pulley 60 mounted on the spindle 29. The pulley 60 also drives, through a resilient belt 66, a pulley 39 on a shaft 37 journalled in a housing 36 on the table 15. The shaft drives, through worm gearing 38, 41, which can be rendered inoperative by loosening nut 43, e.g. when it is desired to dress the wheel 64, a shaft 40 carrying a part 44 with a radial slot in which a block 25 is adjustable by a micrometer screw 46. A link 57 is pivotally connected to the block 25 and to a stud 55 on a lever 53 pivoted on the table 15; a link 58 is pivotally connected to a stud 56 on the outer end of the lever 53 and to a pivot pin 59 secured to the sub-table 49 whereby the latter is reciprocated.
