902,542. Sawing. T.I. (GROUP SERVICES) Ltd. May 12, 1961 [Feb. 17, 1960], No. 5578/60. Class 145. A saw 10 is carried in a frame 11 pivoted at 12 and is fed down into a tubular workpiece 13 by a hydro-pneumatic cylinder unit 15 at varying speeds, firstly at a reduced speed while cutting through the upper wall of the tube, then at a faster speed while cutting the side walls and finally at a reduced speed while cutting through the lower wall. The speed is controlled by one or more cam surfaces 17 provided on a rod 16 coupled to the frame and acting on a valve 18. Limit switches or valves put the unit 15 into operation at the required time to feed the saw up to the work at a relatively fast speed and abutments 19 on the rod 16 control a valve or switch 20 for reversing the saw movement.
