Abstract

902,526. Hinges and pivots. VICKERS-ARMSTRONGS (AIRCRAFT) Ltd. Nov. 7, 1960 [Nov. 20, 1959], No. 39556/59. Class 65 (2). [Also in Group XXXIII] In an aeroplane having wings pivotable in sweep, each wing pivot comprises a disc-like member 10, Figs. 2, 3, of shallow conical form on its sides 101, 102, attached to aeroplane body A and received in a complementary recess 12 in wing B; opposed annular grooves 11, 13 concentric with sweep axis PQ, are undercut at 111, 112, Fig. 6, to form tracks for rollers 142 carried by axles 141 on plates 14, Fig. 5, which interconnect member 10 and wing B. The axles 141 may be rotatably mounted in plates 14, Fig. 6, or may be fixed in the plates and carry the rollers, Fig. 7, not shown, or may have lugs which are fixed in the rebated grooves in one member 10 or B and have rollers on lugs in the other grooves, Fig. 9, not shown. In Fig. 4, not shown, the plates 14 are replaced by a single cylindrical member, and member 10 has a tongue engaged in an annular groove in the wing; the wing may have one or more tongues in grooves in body A. Specification 832,760 is referred to.
